Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you. Whether it’s silky smooth or frizzy and dry, your hair tells a story—and let’s be honest, we all want that story to scream healthy, radiant, effortless beauty.
But here’s the truth: most of us are making small, seemingly harmless mistakes that are silently wrecking our hair.
So, if your hair feels brittle, dull, or like it’s stuck in a never-ending bad hair day… this is for you.
Let’s break down the 5 most common mistakes and how you can fix them starting today.
Washing your hair every day might feel like you’re keeping it clean—but you could actually be stripping it of its natural oils.
Why it’s a problem: Your scalp produces sebum to protect and nourish your hair. Daily washing can dry out your strands, leading to frizz, split ends, and even increased oil production as your scalp overcompensates.
What to do instead:
Aim to wash your hair 2–3 times a week. In between, use a dry shampoo if needed and focus on scalp care, not just your ends.
That bottle you grabbed at the supermarket because it smelled nice? It might be loaded with sulphates and alcohols that damage your hair over time.
Why it’s a problem:
Many high-street products are filled with harsh ingredients that leave your hair feeling clean but cause long-term damage, especially to coloured or chemically treated hair.
What to do instead:
Get professional advice (we do this at Eva’s, by the way 😉) on which product matches your hair type, texture, and treatment history.
Brushing straight after the shower with a regular hairbrush? Yeah… that’s a big no.
Why it’s a problem:
Wet hair is more elastic and fragile. Using a standard brush can stretch and snap strands, leading to breakage.
What to do instead:
Use a wide-tooth comb or a detangling brush specifically designed for wet hair. Start at the ends and work your way up to avoid pulling.
We get it—straighteners, curlers, blow dryers… they’re magic. But without heat protection, they’re also destruction.
Why it’s a problem:
High heat breaks down the keratin in your hair. Repeated exposure leads to dryness, split ends, and breakage. It’s like sunbathing with no sunscreen.
What to do instead:
Always use a heat protectant spray (a good one, not the cheap stuff). And where possible, turn the temperature down. Your hair doesn’t need 230°C to behave.
“I’m growing my hair, I don’t want to cut it.” Heard that one before? Maybe you’ve said it?
Why it’s a problem:
Split ends don’t just stay at the end. They move up the shaft of the hair, causing more damage and slower growth.
What to do instead:
Trim every 6–8 weeks to keep your ends healthy and your hair growing strong.
